icheat

The iphone is a pretty amazing contraption. Amongst other things, it has the ability to give you directions, play video games, kill time on the interenet ,and even...well make phone calls. Add to that the abundance of ridiculous applications that are equally as cool as they are pointless. Any how, I finally caved and bought one( they're only $50 refurbised by the way) and I've been obsessing over the new technology that now I feel like I can't live without, quite sad really. I did download a polaroid app last week that let me take these photos on my way to Vegas, and I must admit they did come out pretty cool. However, I have no future plans of using this device as a substitute for a real camera, I mean after all I just wanna make some phone calls.

180 South World Premiere- Feb. 10th, Santa Barbara CA

Shot some photos for Woodshed Films for their world premiere of 180 South. Heres a few of my favorites, and the film was epic...make sure you check it out!

This image is rad to me, after Chris introduced his film and everyone packed the theater I walked outside to the empty lobby to find him sitting alone. I thought that was a pretty cool moment and he was cool enough to let me capture it.

Jeff Johnson wears converse when hes not charging sketchy reefs in Rapa Nui

During the Q & A some dude came up to the mic and started nerding out about cameras, I thought that was pretty funny.

Road Trip!

Last weekend, I got the chance to jump on board a mammoth trip with a few of my friends. Before I continue with a memorable highlight of the trip I feel like it's imperative to preface the story with a quick explanation.
So I haven't ridden a snowboard in about two years, mind you the last time I rode I was on the mend from a recently broken ankle. I took two runs, called it a day and spent the rest of the afternoon eating a chili bread bowl with my cousins. It was delicious if you were wondering.

After losing most of our crew on day one, Darek and I explored some back country runs. Sounds like a recipe for the best day ever right? Well had I ridden fresh powder previously I would have known that:

A. you don't ride a size 152 in 3 feet of snow.
B. you're never suppose to lean forward in powder (this will turn out really bad)
C. Getting buried and stuck in snow is one of the most humbling and frustrating feelings ever.

At least for me it was, as I spent about a total of 20 minutes between two runs just trying to dig myself out of waist deep snow. Apparently things were said, fist were thrown, and as the story snowballed (no pun intended) I ended up spending the next two days in the peanut gallery as the hissy-fit throwing kook.

I suppose I'll take that, I must admit it was one of the more stressful times I've had during a recreational activity and I did lose it a bit. However, no matter how bad a first day I had and how undone I came, I think by the end of the trip I fully understood why people like snowboarding so much...spending time with you're buddies mashing down a hill is a rad feeling. I think I might give it another go next weekend.

victory at sea!

Mother nature is furious! I got off work early today and had the chance to shoot a few photos from my balcony. Probably the craziest ocean conditions I've ever seen, rogue waves breaking way out back and 8-10 foot close outs pounding the shore, reminded me of that movie the perfect storm. Must be global warming....or man bear pig.

Alittle nostaligia ain't a bad thing...right?

So i get an email the other night from my good friend Ashely. I had taken a few photos of her late canine, Jameson and she wanted to see if I could dig some up for her friend. Here's one from Deloris park a few years ago where Jameo pretty much wreaked havok on everyone within a 50 yard radius...rad dog though. While I was digging through images I couldn't help but have a moment with my own deceased little fur ball. Prissy was an epic dog...RIP lil Prissy.

The other photos are from the past as well, I never posted them for lack of time, interest, or personal reasons(sort of). Sorry Evan and Rachel for not getting permission, but I think these came out pretty good. J Sher...get some!

Cheers

Dawn Patrol

If you're a surfer (and haven't been living under a rock) you probably know by now that the surf has been pumping. Unfortunately, I have been out of town for much of this fiasco, but dedicated myself to waking up early this morning to paddle out for a few waves. Although these photos don't do adequate justice, it looked rather un-inviting; bumpy, awkward close out sets with the occasional makeable shoulder. The only three guys out drifted about 100 yards in the short time it took to snap a few photos. I opted for a quick photo shoot and an extra hour of sleep.

Off The Grid

On a recent drive from LA to San Francisco my buddy Adam and I made a stop at his family friend’s house, an eco lodge nestled deep in the country outside of Half Moon Bay. Hal, who had been Adam's fathers’ roommate in college, is a renowned solar scientist, art collector, philanthropist, philosopher, theologian, and all around genius. I should have been able to gage the uniqueness and potential eccentricity of Hal based solely on the fact that our directions were to be left in a mailbox off the main highway, four miles from his house (which ended up not even being there). After about an hour of blindly trekking through back country roads and desolate valleys we ran into a rancher who knew Hal, and pointed us in the right direction.

Having never met him before, I was not surprised to find Hal as I would picture a man of his intellect; scruffy white beard accompanied by long scraggly hair, old blue jeans, and a dirty white shirt. Looking like a mix between a homeless man, Charles Darwin, and Santa Claus. His guesthouse littered with archives of literature, art, music, and knick knacks collected from over fifty years of traveling. Talking to Hal was interesting, almost like watching three TV's simultaneously; one tuned to the Discovery Channel, and the other two on The History Channel and National Geographic. Out of the whirlwind of complex phrasing and fascinating facts I was to be quite honest, a bit confused.

However, after scratching through multiple layers of a complex mind, stood a humble man, living a simple life. A man with tons of knowledge, a high degree of education, and plenty of life experiences, living alone and spending his days planting trees, reading, painting, and…I guess pondering? At any rate, Hal wasn’t the eccentric fellow I had expected, he was more of a simpleton, who enjoys the solitude and peace of living off the grid.
